Divine Armor of Protection for Women

Hari Om.

This post has been on my mind for quite a while. It is a very painful paradox that on one hand, societies and communities all over the world celebrate Women’s divinity, strength, beauty and wisdom, but on the other hand, women are assaulted, brutally raped, physically and emotionally abused. I have noted these atrocities in the history leaves of every society in every country. We can measure the depth of percolation of the value system in a society by looking at how the society treats Women, Children, and Prisoners Of War (POW), and it does not paint a pretty picture. Every society is failing and falling apart in this basic moral system.

Women are being looked down as objects of enjoyment and pleasure, more so in some sections of society laden with poverty, alcohol, drugs and struggle of survival. No matter the color, race, age, education factors, women are violated, abused, humiliated and their freedom mishandled. There is always apprehension for the physical safety of daughters and sisters. Newspapers all over the world are abound with such news of violation of Women’s honor. What a despicable condition !

I studied in Pilani, which is 6-8 hours by bus from Delhi. In those days, I used to travel by either AP Express or TamilNadu train (24 hours), and then meet my friends at Delhi Railway Station and go to Pilani. While returning, for couple of years, I had to stop at Vijayawada in the night, and take Gautami Express in the early hours to reach Rajamundry. There were many instances when I was alone, huddled up in waiting room with luggage, or on the platform and, once even worried my father by taking a Rickshaw unknowing that the driver was drunk. When I was first traveling to Delhi by train along with my parents in Sleeper Class, in the early hours at Agra, some drunkards boarded our reserved compartment, and made a huge fuss, sitting near me when I was sleeping and trying to touch. My mother was extremely worried, and taking on the pretext of having stomach and head pain, she had the lights on for the whole time and did not sleep. Such instances, I think are abound in most women’s lives….traveling in bus, traveling in train, walking down the road and surrounded by potential non-safety.

We are the precious children of our parents, precious siblings of our brothers, proud students of our teachers, accomplished contributors to society’s growth and advancement, upholders of traditions and cultures, but still the society with its ill-mentalities of people and strange weirdness considers us as weaklings, objects of pleasure and takes away our safety in seconds. What a pity !

Every time I see in the news, a woman raped, physically abused, I experience great pain and mental anguish. Who is there to protect her from the evil-mindedness of these demons ? Who can offer protection to her ? External people – Police, Ministers, Lawyers, Doctors, even parents, brothers, husbands, other friends – all come into picture after the fact. Even they are limited in the power when confronted in the middle of such cruel situations. The strength of the Woman herself is exhibited, but in most cases overpowered. Who can she look for protection ?

When I was thinking thus, I felt it was only the Powerful Mother aspect of the Divine being who can offer protection. We celebrate Vijaya Dasami in India, the nine-day festival, where the aspect of Divine Mother of God is invoked and Her victory over the demons are celebrated with such pomp and ritual. A mother goes beyond her limits to protect her child. That is Mother’s Nature. During the Vijaya Dasami, when I was chanting the Devi-Kavacha (Hymns invoking the Protection of Divine Mother), I felt that every woman should recite this every day morning before starting out in this world.
This world will not change soon – demons and evil-minded people have existed, are existing and will exist. No amount of moral counseling will change them. That is their fate or Prarabdha. To face these demons and be safe from them, we can only ask Mother to protect us – from all directions, from all kinds of evil, and form a protective armor around us. Praying to the Divine Mother for protection is like going to our mother in this world and asking her for something. Where everything else fails, Prayer to Divine Mother with all earnestness will reveal her immense strength and offer unparalleled protection.

I request all my readers to encourage your sisters, daughters, wives, mothers – no matter your religion, creed, nationality or race – to read or listen to the highly potential hymns invoking Protection of Divine Mother every day morning, before engaging in your worldly and day-to-day activities.

Divine Mother has squashed great demons single-handedly and she will suffuse in us such a strength and protect us under Her wing. Mother Krishnabai of Anandashram also suggested every woman to chant Hanuman Chalisa.

I am attaching here the PDF of these chants for Divine Armor of Protection. There are 3 PDFs, 1) English Transliteration + Meanings in English, 2) Sanskrit + Meanings in Hindi, and 3) Telugu.
